     12 ml Random Urine

MINIMUM SPECIMEN:
     1.0 ml Random Urine

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
     Deliver specimen to the laboratory as soon as possible after collection. Testing is optimal if done within one - two hours of collection. Refrigerate specimen if delay is anticipated. Microscopic will be performed on hospital patients if any of the following are positive: Leukocyte esterase, Nitrite, Blood, Protein. A microscopic will always be performed if the patient age is less than two months old. A urine culture will be performed on patients if older than two months of age and WBC is greater than 10 WBCs per field.

CAUSES FOR SPECIMEN REJECTION:
     Specimen held unrefrigerated for more than two hours.
     Specimen older than eight hours post collection (refrigerated or not).
