SYNONYMS:

PREFERRED SPECIMEN:
     3.0 ml Blue(NA Citrate) x2

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
     Lupus sensitive activated thromboplastin time (aPTT), dilute prothrombin time (dPT) and Thrombin time.
Mixing study if screening tests are prolonged, confirmation if the mixing studies do not correct.

     Centrifuge blue tubes twice. Freeze plasma in a transport tube.

     Ideally, the patient should not be on anticoagulant therapy. Avoid Warfarin (Coumadin) therapy for two weeks prior to the test and heparin, direct Xa and thrombin inhibitor therapies for three days prior to testing.

    Test is restricted to outpatients except in rare cases where the test will impact acute hospital management. Testing will be reviewed.
