Gastrointestinal Profile

SYNONYMS:

PREFERRED SPECIMEN:
     1 ml Stool

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
     Obtain orange-cap transport tube from Microbiology. Mix stool specimen in transport tube within one hour of collection. The specimen must have a loose or liquid consistency. One specimen accepted per week during the same patient encounter.
     Test includes twelve different bacterial pathogens; Campylobacter, E. Coli 0157, Enteroaggregative E. Coli, Enteropathogenic E. Coli, Enterotoxigenic E.Coli, Plesiomonas Shigelloides, Salmonella, Shiga-Like Toxin E. Coli, Shigella/EIEC, Vibrio, Vibrio Cholerae, and Yersinia Enterocolitica.
     Four parasites; Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora Cayetanensis, Entamoeba Histolytica and Giardia Lamblia.
     Five viruses; Adenovirus F 40/41, Astrovirus, Norovirus GI/GII, Rotavirus A, and Sapovirus.

REFERENCE RANGE:
     Negative
