PREFERRED SPECIMEN:
     4 mL Urine - No preservative, 24 hr collection

MINIMUM SPECIMEN:
     1 mL Urine - No preservative, 24 hr collection

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
     Transport ambient.
     Keep cold during collection and 1 g/L boric acid may be added as a preservative for other tests without harm to 5HIAA.
     Dietary & Drug Restrictions - Avoid bananas, avocados, plums, eggplant, imipramine, isoniazed, MAO inhibitors, methyldopa, nicotine, phenmetrazline, pineapples, reserpine, walnuts, ethanol, heparin, levodopa, corticotropin and tomatoes for a 72-hour period or more prior to and during the collection.Note: Many MAO inhibitors require up to 7 days to clear the system.
